Mauro Giuliani was an Italian guitarist, cellist, singer, and composer. He was a leading guitar virtuoso of the early 19th century.

His Arpeggio Studies are designed to build right hand strength, independence and dexterity through a series of progressive exercises. The left hand is always playing the I and V7 chords in the key of C (C and G7). This helps focus attention on the right hand by limiting changes in the left.
